gluten free pasta

So, what’s the scoop on gluten?

What is gluten?? Gluten is the protein portion of wheat, rye, and barley grains. People with celiac disease or a gluten allergy cannot digest gluten. When ingested, gluten damages the lining of the small intestines, causing symptoms such as weight loss, bloating, diarrhea, gas, abdominal cramps, and/or vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Juicy, Ripe Tomatoes–It’s that time of year!

For me, Summer = Tomatoes.  I am sure you are figuring this out by now.  My garden is full of roma, beefsteak, big boy, and grape tomatoes. Some are ripe and ready to pick while others are just beginning to ripen and a couple plants are just beginning to produce.  I prefer to space out [...]

Don’t Toss Out the Greens!

Have you ever bought beets with their beautiful greens still intact?  And then thought…great, that’s a lot of waste.  Ahhhh ha!  They are not a waste!  First, they keep your beets tasting fresher and keep in some nutrients by stopping oxidation.  Second, they are really tasty in their own right!  Don’t toss out the greens! Denise Austin’s New Videos

First off, if you know me well you know that I am not a fan of going to a gym.  I struggle with getting into a car and driving to a gym.  And, you may or may not know this, but I don’t watch television, so the idea of doing a video workout doesn’t seem [...]

ten tips

Time for a Giveaway!

We all know that exercise is not easy for everyone.  And for some, it almost seems like a dirty word. I often find clients get overwhelmed with the thought of exercising.  Instead, find something you love that is active!  Ditch the term “exercise” and insert the term “activity” instead.  How does that feel?  Better, huh?  [...]

It’s Harvest Time

Walking out to the garden to see spots of red makes me smile!  Ahhh, it’s harvest time.  My Beefsteak tomatoes are almost ready–2 are pink, and my Romas are exploding: One lone green tomato dropped when I tugged…fried green tomatoes are tasty, too! Not a bad harvest for June in San Diego!  So, now to [...]

It’s Blackberry Season!

Why is it we call them “black” berries when they stain everything purple?  I am guessing it has something to do with PurpleBerry not sounding as sweet?!?  Thoughts? Blackberries are actually native to the US, and feed not only humans but many animals, too.  Similar to other berries they are packed with antioxidants, to include [...]
